Novak Djokovic aims to defeat Sinner and Alcaraz at the Grand Slam tournament.

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, following a lackluster season last year, is ready to challenge Italy's Jannik Sinner and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz at the four major tournaments. He plans to make his return to the game at the Australian Open in January 2025. The 24-time Grand Slam champion shared this information in an interview with a prominent Italian sports publication. After winning three out of four Grand Slam tournaments in 2023, the 37-year-old athlete experienced a significant downturn last season. For the first time since 2017, he failed to secure a single major tennis tournament victory. The current world number one, Jannik Sinner, dethroned Novak at the Australian Open on his way to claiming his first Grand Slam title. The 23-year-old Italian also triumphed over the Serb in the final of the Masters tournament in Shanghai in October.

Additionally, the 2024 US Open champion Sinner added the title of ATP Finals winner to his achievements, while Djokovic withdrew from the season-ending event due to injury. Novak also could not continue his campaign past the quarterfinals of the French Open because of a knee injury. This, along with the defeat of 14-time champion Rafael Nadal, allowed Carlos Alcaraz to claim victory at Roland Garros.

The 21-year-old Spaniard also won the Wimbledon title; however, Djokovic secured his first Olympic gold in Paris, defeating Alcaraz three weeks after the final at the All England Club, once again proving his resilience. "I feel that I can still play at the highest level. Sinner and Alcaraz have established themselves as the two best players in the world, not to mention Alexander Zverev," Djokovic said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

"These young guys will be the main contenders for victory in Grand Slam tournaments and other major ATP events. However, physically and mentally, I am ready to play tennis at a high level again, and I have a feeling that I can challenge them. My experience may come in handy," the Serbian athlete noted.

Djokovic, who has fallen to seventh place in the men's world rankings, stated that the 2024 season has been his least profitable in the past decade: "Therefore, next year I will participate in more events, and Grand Slam tournaments will be my priority. I will do my utmost to win, of course, if my body allows it."

When asked what advice he would give to Sinner, Djokovic replied, "I think he is doing just fine on his own. But winning his first two Grand Slam titles and becoming the world number one is one thing, while staying at that level for many years is quite another," Novak clarified.

After the retirements of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic remains the last representative of his generation still vying for the tennis crown. The 37-year-old Serb is preparing to win a record 11th title at the Australian Open, which starts on January 12 of the coming year in Melbourne.
