Russia will closely monitor the implementation of the tasks outlined by the new authorities of Syria. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing.

“We take note, we are watching, and we are analyzing the statements made by representatives of the newly forming authorities in Syria. The tasks they have listed indeed appear to be extremely important, and we will carefully observe how they are implemented in practice,” said the diplomat.

Zakharova specified that the mentioned tasks include: establishing the functioning of the government apparatus, maintaining order and security in the republic, decisively curbing the activities of criminal elements, as well as preventing extrajudicial reprisals.

As reported by IA Regnum, on December 8, it became known that former Syrian president Bashar Assad decided to leave office and left the country, giving instructions for a peaceful transfer of power. There was also information that the politician and his family arrived in Moscow, where Russia provided them asylum.

For several years, Russia has supported the Syrian authorities led by Assad in their fight against terrorist forces. Moscow has committed to providing support as long as the Syrian state is conducting military operations, noted Russian President Vladimir Putin. As early as 2015, he emphasized that “we do not intend to be bigger Syrians than the Syrians themselves.”
