The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is conducting the traditional live Q&A session. This year, it is combined with a press conference for the head of state. The event is titled "Year in Review with Vladimir Putin."
As of December 16, it was reported that Russians had submitted over 1.5 million questions and appeals to the president. The president's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, noted that during the processing of these appeals, it was possible to identify 10 key issues concerning citizens. He clarified that the ranking varies by region. The list of the most popular topics includes transportation development, housing accessibility, medical issues, and social benefits. Many Russians also sent questions regarding the quality of tap water.
On December 14, after reviewing the questions for the live Q&A, Putin stated that there are “plenty of problems,” so authorities should not become complacent.
During the live Q&A, foreign journalists will also have the opportunity to pose questions to the Russian leader. Peskov emphasized that Russia continues to engage with foreign media and it would be unwise to refuse cooperation with those who show interest in the Russian Federation.
In 2023, the major press conference and live Q&A also took place on December 14 in a combined format. The president answered 26 questions from citizens and 33 questions from journalists over the course of four hours and four minutes. Putin’s statements generated significant interest in global media, being quoted by press from Western countries and the Global South.
